Greetings Fellow Artists

Hi everyone,

I think I'm the newbie on the block....... So here goes...

My name is Dennis Burke, an as my mother has told me I've been drawing since I was 2 years old when I ruined the freshly hung wallpaper in my parents house w/ moms lipstick I stole from her purse. See, I thought ruby red looked better on the walls than those boring contemporary patterns...

More to the point, I've been really drawing since I was about 11 years old when I discovered comic’s books. Went through high school w/ great visual artistic marks... got an awesome recommendation to go to art school... and did I get in Mass Art or RISD... nope. So I did the next best thing at the time... I went to Architecture school. Did that for 3 years or so and soon found out that drawing buildings and learning about the tensile strength of a bridge holding 200 tons isn't the same as when you played w/ legos as a kid.

I've worked for Stonehill College from 1997-2000 as their Artistic Director for the Fall and Spring theater productions. I've submitted to Marvel, DC Comics, Wizard Entertainment, never been published... but I'll keep drawing Spider-man and Batman etc as I'm way more comfortable talking about art (in all mediums) and working behind my drafting desk.

I'm a bit old school as I do most of my work by hand on paper, comic sheets, Strathmore paper. Then inking them by hand. I'm not foreign to using a PC for editing/drawing, but just prefer working w/ a pencil and sharpie. I've used Photoshop and Illustrator (a wee' bit).
Currently I work in Information Technology and cannot stand it. Been in a career slump for about 5 years, but I.T. pays the bills for now.
I answered a post Jessica had sent to an online employment forum looking for a comic book illustrator an it has now rolled into this, becoming an intern artist for GEF. So far she's been awesome to work for, learn from and communicate with. Not to mention the subject matter constantly changing from project to project has become an exciting challenge. It’s more so been a pleasure to do art for someone who has a genuine need for it.

I look forward to meeting you all. Thanks for your time. - Dennis B.

Sure, I'll join you

This is my most recent thing. It's not really my typical style, but I felt like doing something a bit different.

hellooooo

Hey everyone,

My name is Julianna Rose and recently graduated from Smith College this last December majoring in Studio Art (I mostly work in Illustrator and Flash). I was thinking maybe we could start posting our recent projects for GEF up here? Jessica sends me examples of other projects every now and then and they are always pretty motivating/inspiring. I would really love to see more ... I guess I'll start. This was the most recent poster I did for GEF (which took two tries, because before I saw other examples, I will admit my first go around was pretty pathetic).

Please post some of your stuff. I don't want to be alone up here.
